Introduction

Faculty of Architecture Research Unit (FARU) of University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka is organizing the 13th FARU International Research Conference focused on Dimensions of Space. It is scheduled to be held as a virtual conference, hosted from Sri Lanka on the 06th – 10th November 2020. Estimated start time of the conference will be 4pm -7pm Sri Lanka time. The conference will provide a forum for researchers, academics, practitioners and students in the areas of Architecture, Built Environment, Town and Country Planning, Building Economics, Facilities Management and Design. It will deliver several platforms together and to share research and practices under the conference theme.

Conference host
Faculty of Architecture Research Unit (FARU) of University of Moratuwa will be the main organizer of the conference.





Conference Theme
Under the main theme of ‘Dimensions of Space’ the conference hopes to discuss research on ‘space’ and different dimensions of it within the discipline of Build Environment, Town and Country Planning, Building Economics and Design.

Space can be interpreted as an element of design in architecture, design and the build environment, or as agglomeration of urban elements, open spaces in town and country planning. Space also can be defined as the professional space within the construction industry and the contribution towards building economics and quantity surveying. Be it a physical or a virtual space the discipline of design also revolves around it.

FARU 2020 opens up the platform to discourse theoretical or empirical case studies through discussions, debate across disciplines under the following Sub-themes:

a) Track # 1 : Disaster Management and Climate Change
b) Track # 2 : Construction Property and Management
c) Track # 3 : Smart Growth and Sustainability
d) Track # 4 : Built form and Design across Cultures
e) Track # 5 : Vernacular Practices and Conservation
f) Track # 6 : Design Education and Pedagogy

SCOPE AND CALL FOR PAPERS, POSTERS AND DEMO PROPOSALS

Full Paper Submission: The conference aims at carrying out a double bind review process by two experts on the basis of originality, clarity, completeness, relevance and significance to the field of study. Selected papers of all tracks will be accepted for presentation and published in the soft and hard copy of the Conference proceedings bearing an ISBN number. Each selected full paper will be provided with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). The best six papers among the selected will be published in the FARU Journal Vol.07 bearing ISSN 20126301, as a hard copy and, a soft copy in the Sri Lanka Journals Online (SLJOL) with a DOI.

Poster Submission: The conference aims at carrying out a double bind review process by one expert on the basis of originality, clarity, completeness, relevance and significance to the field of study.Selected poster abstracts of all tracks will be accepted for a virtual presentation and published in soft and hard copy of the Conference proceedings bearing an ISBN number.

Demo Proposal Submissions: We regret to inform that we will not be taking submissions this year and wish to plan for it next year.
